Michael Gungor on origins and fat bias
Wednesday Nov 29, 2017
Wednesday Nov 29, 2017
Michael Gungor is a singer/songwriter/composer author and podcaster. Growing up in Wisconsin, Michael began his musical adventure as a Christian worship leader. His Michael Gungor Band days evolved into the band Gungor, which still exists as Michael and his wife, Lisa. In 2014, Michael launched a podcast called the Liturgists which he co-hosts with Science Mike. Together, they deconstruct all elements of life through the lenses of faith, art and science. Michael and his wife Lisa live in LA with their daughters, Amelie and Lucie. Michael studied with Ram Das early this year and took on the name Vishnu Das, so in this episode I may or may not refer to him as ‘Vish’, which is what we call him in our circle of friends. Vish is a dear friend and came over to my place to record this chat, where we discuss his origins in Wisconsin, and, fat bias.

After discussing drugs (of all shapes and sizes), Caroline asks Jessica a series of questions about her social media past, present and future. HINT: Jayzombie was Instagram's 5th hire (and first female hire!) so she's got some seriously juicy answers! Don't miss this.

Jessica Zollman on drugs
Wednesday Nov 08, 2017
Wednesday Nov 08, 2017
Jessica Zollman, also known as "jayzombie," is a self-taught photographer from San Francisco who is currently based in Los Angeles, California. Jessica was Instagram's fifth employee and first female hire back in 2011, and served as their Community Evangelist for nearly two years. She also spent a season working at a little company called Facebook. In 2013 she set out on her own to pursue her passion for taking pictures full-time. I put a call out on my own Instagram story, asking if anyone would be open to talking about drugs on the podcast, and I was over the moon when Jessica responded. She’s a fellow lover of bright colors, Los Angeles, and being an authentic human, so it was an absolute joy to have her over to my place to record this podcast.

Jeff Mindell is a Los Angeles-based photographer and social media guru, who lives and works with his wife, Kelly, often shooting for her blog, Studio DIY. Jeff and Kelly have been together since their highschool days on the east coast, and have shared about their life and journey very openly online. We got together in my house to record our chat about that.

Mama Cax on dating with a disability
Wednesday Oct 25, 2017
Wednesday Oct 25, 2017
Mama Cax is a Haitian-American Blogger, Advocate, model and Motivational Speaker. Cax uses her Instagram channel as a platform to talk about body positivity, and as a source of inspiration for what life with a disability can look like. She travels the world fearlessly, even after having lost her leg to cancer as a teenager. In fact, her travel is so extensive that she’s the one who inspired my own trip to Tunisia, and, the first time we met her in person was in Rome earlier this year because our paths in Italy happened to cross. She now lives in NYC where she is currently working on her Masters, so we had a call to record our discussion, where we delve into the world of dating with a disability.
The story that Cax mentions being in the writing process of has been published and can be read here.

Lisa Congdon is an artist, illustrator and author of 7 books, including her most recent release, A Glorious Freedom: Older Women Leading Extraordinary Lives. Lisa is a swimmer, biker, animal lover, speaker and advocate, and was named one of the 40 Women Over 40 to Watch in 2015. On a more personal note, Lisa created the artwork for this podcast, and I feel so lucky to have Out of Line visually represented by her creativity. Lisa and her wife, Clay, live and work in Portland, Oregon, so we hopped on a Skype call to record our chat. We delve into the realm of what its like to 'grow up online', and explore the sense that you know someone in real life when you follow them online.

William Matthews is an LA-based musician, who rose to fame through his songwriting in the Christian and gospel genres. William is one of the only guests on Out of Line with whose fanbase grew outsides of social media, and so his following is quite equal across multiple channels. William is a producer, coach and also podcaster of his own show, CultureShock.

Elsie Larson on special needs adoption
Wednesday Oct 11, 2017
Wednesday Oct 11, 2017
Elsie Larson is one of the OG bloggers and social media mavens, whose blog A Beautiful Mess just turned a whopping 10 years old. If we converted blog years to human years, that’d be like 92.. But Elsie didn’t just stop at a blog. She’s joined forces with her sister, Emma, and together, they’ve published two books, two apps (including my personal favorite phone editing app, A Color Story) and most recently, a product line called OuiFresh. Elsie lives in Nashville, so she and Caroline hopped on a Skype call to record this episode, where they talk about Elsie's recent process adopting her daughter from China. Elsie and her husband chose to adopt a child with special needs, and Elsie discusses that experience and everything that was involved.

Patrick Janelle on growing up conservative
Wednesday Oct 11, 2017
Wednesday Oct 11, 2017
Patrick Janelle is one of the gram gods of NYC. Affectionately known as a guy named patrick [@aguynamedpatrick], this guy is the king of creating other-worldly experiences through the membership club called Spring Street Social Society that he co-founded with Amy Virginia Buchanan. Patrick is a strategist who effortlessly integrates marketing into his Spring Street events and Instagram feed. He also happened to create the app called Liquor Cabinet. Patrick and Caroline snuck away to record this one Friday, where Caroline sipped coffee in LA at 11am and Patrick turned to wine since it was already the freakin’ weekend in NYC. The discussion quickly went to Patrick's years growing up in a conservative community knowing that he was gay.
